The automatic fan (or ancillary) belt tensioner on the 300Tdi engine. When these start to wear they can "cock" sideways forcing the side of the belt against the side of the pullies. This is what usually creates the usual 300Tdi belt noise. We suggest replacing this when you replace the belt.
And use a wire brush to clean out the grooves on each of the pullies.
